Martaki Bracelet

🇬🇷In Greece, on March 1st we wear this bracelet, made of red and white rope or twisted or knitted threads.
🏛We even think that it has its roots in antiquity, and more particularly in the Eleusinian mysteries.
☀️According to this custom, mothers wear this bracelet on their children's wrists to protect their faces from the first sun of spring, which is particularly strong, according to popular belief.
🕊The custom is finished at the end of the month, when they take it out and leave it on the trees, as soon as they see the first swallow, so that the birds can take it and build their nest.

Often called “mati” or “mataki”, the Greek eye is not just decorative.
It is there to protect and prevent the effects of the evil eye (bad energy).
